The core task of Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (GMV) is to create and facilitate cooperation, between and within Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg, with an aim to generate and practically implement knowledge about sustainable development. In order to develop solutions to global challenges, GMV brings academic disciplines together to create new knowledge. Moreover, practical implementation of knowledge requires collaboration between academia and other actors in society. To this end, GMV creates meeting places and brings together different types of expertise in order to promote sustainable development within research, education and cooperation.
[5 Dec 2019] In a recent Finnish conference, SDSN Northern Europe contributed in making policy recommendations for the upcoming Finnish European Union (EU) Presidency. The recommendations aims for the EU to be a global forerunner in adopting and implementing policies which respect human rights and address the global challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, poverty, inequality, resource depletion and quality of life.
[29 Nov 2019] On November 25th the Chalmers alumni Ben Henley, University of Melbourne and Monash University, revisited Gothenburg to spread the word on climate change, its effects and how Australian politicians are handling the issue. Or rather how they aren¿t handling the issue.
[29 Nov 2019] The 5th of November the Focali network, hosted by GMV, celebrated it´s 10-year anniversary at the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg. Members and partners from a broad range of disciplines and institutions in Sweden and internationally participated in vibrant discussions on the thematic areas of Focali ¿ forests, landscapes, climate and livelihood issues - as well as what role science and networks such as Focali can play in these times of populism and climate crisis.
