About Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development

Two universities working together for sustainable development

Initially Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (former Centre for Environment and Sustainability) was the product of the co-operation organisation School of Environmental Science, that started in the early nineties. In 2001 Chalmers and University of Gothenburg mandated the centre as a co-operation platform for sustainable development and environmental research.

Multidisciplinary approach

Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development´s s approach towards sustainable development is multidisciplinary in nature. It therefore involves all faculties and departments at both universities. Such an approach adds value to all stakeholders, as traditionally it has been difficult to put interdisciplinary ideas into practice.

Research platform and scientific network

Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development has successfully established and maintained a platform of about 500 researchers at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg, that mobilises interdisciplinary research within different projects and centres.
