Spotlight on Bolivia - from social mobilization to wastewater treatment


Bolivia, a landlocked Latin American country has a geography that includes both Andean peaks and lowlands in the Amazon basin. In 2019, Evo Morales, the country's first president of indigenous origin was forced to resign following a disputed general election. In this webinar two researchers from different disciplines share their knowledge and perspectives on the situation in Bolivia.

State politics, social mobilization, and conflicting varieties of environmentalism in Bolivia

Anders Burman is a senior lecturer at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, with almost 20 years of experience of conducting research in Bolivia. In a new paper he has studied social movements and the emergence of different environmental movements under the presidency of Morales (2006-2019).

Bolivian progress on SDG 6 - determinant factors for successful wastewater treatment

Claudia Cossio Grageda from the Universidad Mayor de San Simón, Bolivia, earned her PhD in architecture and civil engineering at Chalmers in 2020. Her thesis focused on the sustainability of small-scale wastewater treatment plants in Bolivia.

The two presentations will be followed by group reflections and a moderated Q&A session with the speakers.
