Higher seminar
On Thursday, October 18th, Svein Jentoft, Professor of Sociology at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science at UiT, The Arctic University of Norway, holds an open seminar on global fisheries management.
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg has appointed Svein Jentoft to a new honorary doctorate. Jentoft has greatly contributed to the development of the marine and interdisciplinary social sciences profiles at the University of Gothenburg and is linked to the activities of the Center for Sea and Society.
Jentoft´s background is in sociology but he pursued interdisciplinary studies and greatly influenced the development of marine social science over the last four decades. He has made pioneering contributions to the field of marine governance, especially on fisheries and coastal management, including resource management, industrial organization and community development, both in Norway and in many other countries worldwide. Jentoft is most known for the development of the concepts of co-management and community-based approaches, as well as interactive governance theory and governability, applied broadly to marine and fisheries governance.
