Researchers Talked about the Global Goals in the Science Roulette

News: May 03, 2018

The Science Roulette, where scientists talk to guests about various issues in the gondolas of the Liseberg Ferris wheel, is a recurring event during the annual International Science Festival in Gothenburg. The guests do not know beforehand who they will share their gondola with and what the topic of the ride will be. This year, the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development had invited 17 scientists from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg to talk to visitors about the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Armed with pictures and information material, each scientist gave a presentation on a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and how their research relates to it. Lotta Dellve talked about SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. On more normal workdays, Dellve works as a professor of work science at the University of Gothenburg, and her research concerns psychosocial and organisational conditions in the workplace and their connection to sustainability from a perspective of health and organisational development.
‘I really enjoyed talking to the visitors about my research and how it relates to SDG 8. Some of them shared valuable life experiences and ideas about how to achieve sustainability in the workplace,’ says Dellve.

Ole Martin Christensen, researcher from Chalmers, talked about SDG 13 (Climate Action) and played a climate card game with his guests in the gondola.
