Pam Fredman Acting Director of GMV

News: May 12, 2022

The University of Gothenburg's former Vice-Chancellor Pam Fredman has been appointed Acting Director of the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (GMV). Pam is since October 2021 leading a project reviewing GMV mission and assignment and will now also lead the organisation's ongoing operations as Acting Director until the end of the year.

Portrait of Pam FredmanIn October 2021, the President of Chalmers and the Vice-Chancellor of University of Gothenburg decided to start a change project for GMV with the aim of developing the business to conduct a well-defined collaboration task. At that time, Pam Fredman, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg, was appointed project manager. The project is led by a steering group with representatives from both universities. One of the goals is to streamline GMV's mission and to become Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg's main platform for collaboration aiming towards sustainable development. At the same time a review will be made to see whether certain parts of the organisation can be reallocated to other parts of either of the two universities.

In May, Pam was also appointed to lead GMV's ongoing operations as Acting Director.

- I see tremendous potential in both leading GMV towards a new mission and at the same time running the daily operations. With a changed organisation, we can collaborate with other societal actors with even more power and clarity, says Pam Fredman.

GMV's former director Jan Pettersson had an appointment as Director that ended in May 2022 and he has chosen to decline the extended assignment that he was offered. Jan is Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Gothenburg and will now focus on his research. However, he will continue some of his other assignments including staying on as Chair of the Leadership Council for the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe.

- Over the past four years, we have implemented several changes within GMV and strengthened our offers to students and employees within our two universities as well as to external actors and partners. I wish Pam and all those working within GMV the best of luck in the process towards a new organisation. I look forward to devoting more time to research and utilising the broadened knowledge around sustainable development that I have gained during my time at GMV. I also look forward to continued collaboration around sustainable development in several national and international forums.
