The programme for the sustainability week is out!

News: Oct 05, 2022

The sustainability week with the theme Democracy in a Changing Climate has launched the programme for 2022 and opened the registrations. Now all students, researchers, teachers and personal are welcomed to register to secure your seat at Chalmers University of Technology’s and the University of Gothenburg’s joint sustainability week. Also the Act Sustainable Research Conference has released its programme and registrations. The week stretches from November 14-18 at Studenternas Hus.

Today Act Sustainable released its programme for 2022 and opened the registrations. The programme stretches from from November 14-18 and includes everything from lectures and workshops to a research conference and student-led sessions. Act Sustainable is open for all students, researcher, teachers and personal at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. Participate by registering for the sessions you want to attend, and you can register for as many as you like. Almost all of the programme takes place at Studenternas Hus right here in the middle of Gothenburg.

This year’s theme for Act Sustainable is Democracy in a Changing Climate. So, this year all participants get to explore the connections between the social and ecological climate. How do these areas affect each other and what synergies can be seen in their respective development over time? What are the social effects of the climate crisis and what social aspects are driving the climate crisis? How does the lack of, or access to, human rights, democracy, inclusion, peace, and equality affect the climate, and vice versa?

The week is initiated with a lecture by Staffan I Lindberg, Director of Varieties of Democracy Institute (V-Dem) at the University of Gothenburg, and this year’s keynote speaker is Gunilla Reischl, Head of Programme of the Global Politics and Security Programme at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI). You can read about this, and much more, in the programme on Act Sustainable’s website.

Student-led sessions

During the whole sustainability week every lunch-slot in the programme is reserved for student-led sessions. This means student organizations take place on stage at Studenternas Hus and raises the most burning questions. The application period just closed, and shortly the programme will be restocked with the students’ own sessions.

Research Conference for sustainability

This year features the Act Sustainable Research Conference as a part of the sustainability weeks last days, November 16-18, also at Studenternas Hus. The Conference is aimed mainly for PhD-students associated with Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, and researchers in low- and middle-income countries linked to the Global Sustainable Futures platform. This year’s theme is Sustainability in times of declining democracy and increasing polarization: What knowledge and actions do we need? It connects with Act Sustainables overarching theme and raises questions about research financing and academic freedom in times of democratic decline.
