Hasse works as a policy analyst at the Gothenburg Center for Sustainable Development (GMV) as part of Sida's helpdesk for climate and environment. Since 2012, Hasse has been researching renewable energy transitions in developing countries. The research has focused on positive and negative determinants for solar and wind power transitions on a large scale (parks) and small-scale (mini-grid) as an alternative to electrification in rural areas. Hasse has country experience through empirical studies in Tanzania, Colombia and India.
From April 2021, Hasse's work at GMV will be combined with further research at the School of Global Studies, Gothenburg University. The new research will analyze the effects of renewable energy on living conditions and opportunities in rural Colombia.
In addition to his research, Hasse worked for several years at World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C., with education and health projects in Latin America, Africa and East Asia and the Pacific.
