Are you a Chalmers or University of Gothenburg student interested in a master’s thesis based on data from low- and middle-income countries?
Minor Field Studies (MFS) is a Sida-funded program with the aim of giving Swedish students the opportunity to gain knowledge about Sida's partner countries and development issues.
This is made possible by a travel scholarship of SEK 27,000 per student for a field study of at least 8 weeks (56 days on site). The scholarship is an additional scholarship for other CSN funds. The field study should serve as material collection for degree work for a bachelor's, master's or master's degree.
One criteria is that you are a Swedish citizen or have a permanent residence permit (PUT) in Sweden. EU citizens' permanent residence permit (PUR) is not equated with a permanent residence permit (PUT) and does not justify grant funding. If you come from the rest of the Nordic countries and are not a Swedish citizen, you should have been registered in Sweden for at least one year at the time of the decision to award scholarships.
Note that as of 2018, people with dual citizenship in Sweden and another country are allowed to conduct field studies via MFS in the other country.

Chalmers have two scholarships where students can get support for longer field studies abroad during their master’s thesis. The aim is to create an opportunity for students to get unique experiences through their work. The idea is to work with internationally interesting sustainable solutions for global challenges within the framework of a thesis. Both scholarships have the same deadline for application on November 7 and the field study should be performed during spring 2022.
More information about these scholarships, practicalities around travelling etc. will be discussed at an information event at lunch time (12.00-13.00) on the 21st of September 2021.

This scholarship is funded by Universitets- och högskolerådet (UHR) and one aim is that students should improve their knowledge of global development issues and to prepare for work in global contexts and organizations. The thesis topic should be of importance to economic, social, political or knowledge-based development in the country that the student travel to.

From 2020 Chalmers has a mentorship program, funded by a private donation, with focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and internationalization in low- and middle-income countries in Asia, Africa and South America. In addition to the academic supervisor and examiner the students will have a mentor in Sweden and a local mentor in the country where the data collection for the master’s thesis is conducted.
