Is your department interested in educational collaborations in low- and middle-income countries, the Nordic countries or the Baltics? From 2022, international staff mobility within the Linnaeus-Palme and Nordplus programmes will be co-financed in the same way as staff mobility in the Erasmus + programme. The Vice-Chancellor adds 50 percent of the grant amount to contribute to the department's indirect costs in, for example, planning trips and teacher exchanges.
Since 2010, the University has co-financed indirect costs for international staff mobility within the Erasmus+ programme. In December 2021, the Vice-Chancellor decided to extend the co-financing, so that it also covers staff mobility within the Linnaeus-Palme and the parts of the Nordplus programme that cannot be financed through Erasmus +. The co-financing scheme means that the Vice-Chancellor contributes with an additional 50 per cent of the granted amount for international staff mobility, to cover parts of the departments indirect costs that the grant generates.
Linnaeus-Palme is a Sida-funded programme that focuses on educational collaborations with universities in low- and middle-income countries.
“The University of Gothenburg is granted approximately 15 to 20 projects every year within Linnaeus-Palme. However, several departments have stated that they cannot afford to participate in the programme due to high indirect costs. We now hope that the new co-financing scheme will make it easier for more teachers to go on a teacher exchange outside the EU, through more applications to the Linnaeus-Palme programme”, says Laila Johannesson at the International Centre.
The Nordplus programme provides opportunities for collaboration between universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries. For international staff mobility within Nordplus, the Nordic Council of Ministers refers to the Erasmus + programme where possible.
“There may be activities within the Nordplus programme where the requirements for Erasmus + staff mobility are not met. For example, trips to initiate new networks, if these trips are shorter than two days. In that case, the department will instead receive additional funding through the new co-financing scheme”, says Laila Johannesson.
The International Centre will now develop administrative procedures for the new co-financing scheme.
