Funding and support for mobility and collaboration with low- and middle- income countries

Föreläsning

Funding and formalities are two hurdles to overcome when planning for international collaboration. Luckily, there are advice and support to be found at both University of Gothenburg and Chalmers. Join our presentation of available support and funding opportunities for collaboration with partners in low- and middle-income countries. Meet the people there to help you at this GSF webinar.

In 2005, the Department of Social Work at the University of Gothenburg began collaborating with Makerere University in Uganda via a Sida-supported programme for doctoral student supervision. This international project then led to further collaborations, including teacher and student exchange through the Linnaeus-Palme programme, research collaboration, joint applications as well as the start of an Erasmus Mundus master programme with students from all over the world.

If you'd like to explore the possibilities to do something similar, there is a variety of funding and supporting opportunities available for international cooperation with universities or organisations within education and research.

Funding within education is supported by the International Centre at the University during the application phase as well as during the entire project period. The Application- and Project Support will present possibilities for funding your educational collaboration in low- and middle-income countries. Funding for doctoral- and teacher- and staff mobility for existing or new collaborations will also be presented as well as the university's participation in university-wide international projects and networks.

There is also Horizon Europe, the 2021-2027 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation financed by the European Union. It supports collaborative projects between universities, companies and other partners, also in low- and middle-income countries, to tackle global and societal challenges. The Grants and Innovation Office at the University of Gothenburg will give an introduction on how to find the right opportunities and partners.

And, last but not least, the actual mobility, staying for some time in another country or coming to Sweden for doctoral studies or research, has its own set of requirements and permissions to be obtained. The International Staff Mobility Office (ISMO) at Chalmers is the one-stop shop for questions regarding work permits, insurances and other issues regarding relocation, including finding a place to stay. As every exchange of staff or coming to Sweden is unique, an early discussion with ISMO may save considerable time.
